What major historical events do you remember?
Disco, punk, emergence of rap and hip-hip, the Afro-Cuban scene to an extent…and a host of others including new wave, and the rest of it. They all had their own individual level of effect on me, and therefore, my subsequent works in musicality. Other major historical events were the walkman , the boom box, (complete with cardboard for the breakdancing in the streets), the pet rock, microwave, vhs & 8 track, and my first song, among others according to my universe. The death of Elvis and Princess Diana, (I didn’t know that Groucho Marx died three days after Elvis, as it got buried on the last page, so to speak. The retirement of Johnny Carson, the retirement of Michael Jordan the first time, (and the tragic death of his father that led to it). The first Star Wars movie, the first time I watched Bruce Lee, but most of all, when I called out to the Christ as a young kid on the streets, (in a near death situation), and He heard my prayers.
I said to the Lord…”Lord God if You exist and are really real, please save me and give me a heart to always serve you”. That’s when my walk with Christ Jesus began, and though the road be tough, it’s worth it, and things for me got progressively better in my spiritual battles. But it wasn’t until my conversion to the Orthodox Church and my subsequent baptism that I began to feel the operation of the Holy Spirit more fully in my life. Truly, I had found the pearl of high value, and the “One Church” which has the complete fullness of the stature and maturity that belongs to the Christ. I had to go through countless churches to find home, but as it is written down and was said by Our Lord and the Master of our faith…”keep knocking, keep asking,” and if it is the will of God, then you shall have it and the door will be opened to you. But that major historical event is of my own personal view, (and from my own personal temporal locus), and simply that. It is written for those upon which it will find fertile soil in the ethos, the nous, and that which can transform phronema. God bless.
